Thomas J. Franz, 67, of Herman, passed away Monday, July 29, 2024, at Select Specialty Hospital in Natrona Heights.

Born in Butler on Jan. 20, 1957, he was a son of the late Hubert N. and Theresa M. Steiner Franz.

Tom worked as a packer at International Staple and Machine Company. He was formerly employed at the James Austin Company and at Ibis Tek.

He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church.

Tom was a life member of the Herman Volunteer Fire Company. He was a past chief of the fire company, and he achieved the designation of Firefighter I. He was also an emergency medical technician, and he served with the fire company’s fire police.

He is survived by three brothers, Edwin H. Franz of Herman, Regis V. Franz of Butler and James M. Franz of Butler; a number of nephews and cousins; one great-niece; and one great-nephew.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Franz, who passed away Oct. 12, 2021.

FRANZ — Friends of Thomas J. Franz, who died Monday, July 29, 2024, will be received from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 821 Herman Road, Herman.

The celebration of a Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Ward Stakem, OFM Cap., officiating.

Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Herman Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 87, Herman, PA 16039.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 429 Center Ave., Butler.
