Florence “Flo,” “Sis,” Birckbichler, 84, of Butler, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024.

She was born Dec. 7, 1939, at home on Black Run Road in Grove City, the daughter of the late Ross and Mary (Kay) Covert.

Flo attended a number of one-room schoolhouses in Mercer County. She was a 1958 graduate of Grove City High School. She married Dale Birckbichler in 1965. They celebrated their 59th anniversary in January. Florence dedicated her life to her family, shaping her career around their needs. She had worked at Montgomery Ward, Butler School District and Saxony Golf Course. She had the unique gift of making everyone feel at home and loved. Florence was a devout member of St. Peter Catholic Church. Her hobbies included playing softball, bowling, playing cards, visiting casinos and especially taking beach vacations with her family. An avid music lover, her favorite artists were Elvis Presley, Neil Diamond, Alan Jackson and particularly, Vince Gill.

Surviving are her husband, Dale Birckbichler; her sons, Chris (Gloria) Birckbichler, Scott (Kimberly) Birckbichler and Kurt (Amy) Birckbichler; seven grandchildren, Brooke, Jenna, Nasir, Lauren and Mason Birckbichler, Joshua Warburton and Leah Dunmyre; five great-grandchildren; and her brothers, Lee and Orrin Covert.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Edna, Helen, Dorothie, Betty, Lynn and Dave.

BIRCKBICHLER — Friends of Florence “Flo,” “Sis,” Birckbichler, who died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at All Saints Parish, Saint Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler, with the Rev. Kevin Fazio officiating.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation or the Alzheimer's Association.
