William Carey Rice

Rice

William Carey Rice, 85, of Valencia, died Tuesday, July 23, 2024, peacefully at his home surrounded by family. He was the husband of the late Nancy Jordan Rice.

Born Jan. 3, 1939, in Lynchburg, Va., Carey was the son of the late Earl Edward Rice and Frances McCraw Rice.

Carey grew up in Lynchburg, Va., and was a long-standing member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church. He was an accountant at General Electric/Ericsson for over 30 years and retired when he was 58. He loved being around people and was always willing to help anyone who needed it. Carey volunteered at Virginia Baptist Hospital, Centra Health Cancer Center, and was a deacon at his church.

Carey moved to the Pittsburgh area where he spent a lot of time with his grandchildren, Connor and Hailey Long, through much of their younger years and beyond. Carey loved to spend as much time outside as possible and even in his last few years he enjoyed going for walks, growing tomatoes, feeding the birds and being out just enjoying the sunshine.

Carey is survived by his brother, James “Jim” Rice; and daughters, Lisa Fulton (Kevin), Tracey Long (Phil); and four grandchildren, Skylar and Camryn Fulton and Connor and Hailey Long; and his four-legged buddy, Lilly.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Doris Kizer, Hilda Sprouse, Elaine McFaden and Nancy Spooner.
