Joyce Ann (Scango) Dills, 82, a lifelong resident of Point Marion, Pa., passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 27, 2024.

Born in Point Marion on May 4, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Jules and Lillian (Stillwagon) Scango.

Joyce was a member of the last graduating class of the Point Marion High School in 1960. Upon graduation, she moved to Washington D.C., where she worked for the CIA under the Kennedy administration, of which she very proud. She returned to Point Marion where she worked as a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service for more than 30 years. Following retirement from the post office, she was the librarian at the Point Marion Public Library until 2019.

She and her family grew up in the Methodist Church of Point Marion, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Later in life, she attended the First Baptist Church of Point Marion, where she played the piano for many years. Her Christian spirit was evident by her always present sweet smile, generous heart of gold and loving and caring attitude.

Joyce loved her hometown and neighbors and formed many lifelong friendships. She lived life to the fullest and enjoyed music, reading and watching Turner Classic Movies. She especially loved vacationing at the beach with her family, and had a special love of lighthouses and those huge trees in Maine. Joyce loved decorating for all holidays, but particularly Halloween. Autumn was her favorite season because of the changing color of the leaves and the fun she had passing out candy during trick-or-treat.

Surviving are her three children, Roger A. Dills and Julie Dills, both of Point Marion, and Greg Dills of Cabot; two grandchildren, Andrew and Ashley Dills; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and many friends.

Her husband, Roger S. Dills, passed away on Sept. 1, 1996. Also deceased are two brothers, Alan and Jerry Scango.

DILLS — Friends of Joyce Ann (Scango) Dills, who died Saturday, July 27, 2024, will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, 501 Morgantown St., Point Marion. There will be additional visitation from 9 until the 10 a.m. hour of service on Thursday, with her pastor, Kathy Griffith, officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion.
