Richard “Neil” Smith, 71, of Bruin, died unexpectedly on Thursday, May 23, 2024, of natural causes.

He was born in Butler on Jan. 12, 1953, to the late Robert G. Smith and the late Eleanor C. McGarvey.

He was a 1971 graduate of Karns City High School, Karns City.

He had many hobbies, and could be found happily working on his cars. He enjoyed being with his family, and the unconditional love and companionship of his cats.

He was a kind and wise man with lots of knowledge, who would help anyone.

He retired from Witco Chemical in Petrolia, after 35 years of service as a pipefitter.

He is survived by a daughter, Alisa C. Buzzard of Chicora; a grandson, Austin Gauge Buzzard of Chicora; a brother, Michael J. and Darla Smith of East Brady; two brothers-in-law, Rod Sheakley of Petrolia and John Emery of Bruin; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gale Smith; and two sisters, Linda Sheakley and Pam Emery.

SMITH — Friends of Richard “Neil” Smith, who died Thursday, May 23, 2024, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2024, at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Wallace, pastor of Chicora Alliance Church, officiating.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut, Pa.
