Moniteau softball falls to Cranberry

After falling behind 4-0 in the first two innings, Moniteau rallied to knot its District 9 2A semifinal softball game at 4 in the fifth inning on Thursday at Brockway.

Top-seeded Cranberry pushed across two runs in the bottom of the sixth, however, and hung on for a 6-4 victory.

Mariska Shunk led a 10-hit attack for the Warriors (8-12) by collecting a double and two singles. Halle Beatty had two singles and two RBI while Lily Staab tripled.

Gracee Hess got the win in relief for Cranberry, striking out six in four innings. Cranberry will play Curwensville for the district title on Monday.

Moniteau will play Karns City in an 11 a.m. consolation game Monday at Karns City as both teams are looking to keep their state tournament hopes alive.

Boys Volleyball

Seneca Valley secured a spot in the PIAA 6A state tournament with a 3-1 win over Butler in Peters Township. Scores were 28-26, 24-26, 25-18, 25-22.

Individal statistics for the Raiders were not available. Coleton Welter led the Golden Tornado with 14 kills while Maddox McCall had 25 digs, Mason McCall 24 assists and Andrew Slaugenhoup four blocks.
