Mars awards access road bid

Vice president resigns, nominates replacement

ADAMS TWP — Board directors at Mars Area School District awarded a bid to HRG Construction Group for an access road leading to the high school at a special meeting held Monday, May 23.

The road would be contained within the district from the end of the newly constructed Milky Way Road for buses to come around and park. The decision to construct an access road was the result of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Three Degree Road project, which has led to the implementation of several detours to school buildings.

Milky Way Road is scheduled to open before the fall, according to PennDOT, and will connect to the back of the high school parking lot.

The board said PennDOT’s reimbursement rate for the project has yet to be determined.

Construction will begin as soon as the school year ends, according to the school board.

Monday morning, board directors also accepted the resignation of board member Sallie Wick, who previously served as vice president. The board also reelected Anthony De Pretis as treasurer.

Wick said she is departing from the role due to having begun a full-time job with a lengthy commute a few months ago.

“I’ve dedicated 110% of my time to this district and I love this district,” Wick said. “I feel … I would be doing it a disservice to try to do this and my job and take care of my family.”

Wick nominated Jennifer DiCuccio to fill the position of vice president. DiCuccio’s nomination was unanimously approved by the board.
