BUFFALO TWP — A 13-year-old boy died and another was injured after they were struck by a pickup Friday evening, May 24, on Cole Road in Buffalo Township.

Emergency medical services were called just before 7 p.m. to the scene of a crash on Cole Road in Buffalo Township, where it was initially reported at least one child on a bicycle was struck by a vehicle.

Buffalo Township Police Chief Tim Derringer said the two boys were riding their bicycles west on Cole Road when the black pickup struck them.

The boy who died had been transported by LifeFlight helicopter to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, Derringer said.

He said the other boy had minor injuries and was brought to a hospital by his parents.

Derringer said police were informed of the boy’s death by the Allegheny County medical examiner.

The driver of the pickup stopped and is cooperating with police, Derringer said. A state police forensics unit was on scene reconstructing the accident Friday evening.

Fire police were called in to shut down Cole Road at Parker Road, and traffic was rerouted at the intersection of Cole Road and Stratford Drive and Scenic View Drive. The road was closed for several hours.
