The hilarious and lucrative appearance by the Sprankle family on the “Family Feud” television show last month will benefit three area Salvation Army food programs.

Sprankle family members have announced they will donate a portion of their “Family Feud” winnings, plus 10% of store sales from Campout for Community day on April 25, along with a match from PA Skill, which adds up to $20,000.

The Salvation Army food programs in Saxonburg in Butler County and Leechburg and Kittanning in Armstrong County will share the donation.

Karen Boltz, human services coordinator for the Salvation Army’s Saxonburg service unit, said the donation will allow her to continue the unique food box program.

Eligible families receive fresh meat and produce, recipes and ingredients needed to complete them, plus a $25 gift card for Sprankle’s Neighborhood Markets.

“I always tell them, we couldn’t do it without you,” Boltz said. “We are incredibly grateful.”

She and her husband, Marlin, who is the chairman of the service unit, store the boxes in the huge coolers at Sprankle’s Neighborhood Market until they can be picked up by the families in need.

She said Sprankles has been a great partner with the service unit and beyond.

“They are huge on community. They have fun events for families all year round,” Boltz said. “They had trick-or-treating in the store last October.”

The food box program is open to eligible families in Saxonburg, Sarver and Cabot, and all eligible Knoch School District families, she said.
