Gerald E. “Joe” Soose, 91, of Butler passed away the afternoon of Saturday, May 11, 2024, with his family by his side.

Born Nov. 2, 1932, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late George and late Olive (Wise) Soose.

Joe was a member of Muddy Creek Evangelical Presbyterian Church and was a local scrap yard owner for over 60 years. Joe was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Korean War on the USS Floyds Bay and also the USS Badoeng Strait. He also proudly served in the United States Army Reserves for many years, retiring in 1992.

Joe married the love of his life, Annabelle Webb Soose, on July 9, 1965. She preceded him in death Oct. 7, 2020.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Crystal Dee Soose of Butler; three grandsons, Jerad (Gabrielle) Soose, Joseph (Stephanie) Walker and Matthew Walker; and seven great-grandchildren, Jerad, Jayden and Kaylen Soose, Noah Latulola, Dimitri Tyson, and Logan and Zoe Walker. He is also survived by his sister, Patty (David) McDougal of Barkeyville, and his brother, Larry (Patty) Soose, of Butler; many nieces and nephews; and the beloved family dog, Noelle.

Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

SOOSE — Family and friends of Gerald E. “Joe” Soose, who died Saturday, May 11, 2024, will be received for visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 132 Main St., West Sunbury.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Matt Kail officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Burial Estates with military honors provided by Butler VFW Post 249, Lyndora American Legion Post 778, and Butler American Legion Post 117.
