New exhibit on display at Maridon Museum in Butler

A new display is available for public viewing at the Maridon Museum, 322 N. McKean St., Butler.

The museum, which displays the voluminous art collection of the late Mary Hulton Phillips, has announced it is presenting a new exhibit of 33 ivory objects.

The ivory collection was tucked away in storage by Phillips, and the pieces have never been seen by the public, according to a news release from the museum.

Magnificently carved floral baskets and birds, Samurai battling on a bridge, a happy Buddha with 11 children, elephants on the march, depictions of everyday life, scholars and goddesses, and the whimsy of a snail that takes center stage are among the ivory carvings in the new exhibit.

The Maridon Museum is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
