Melvin ‘Elroy’ Hillwig Jr.

Melvin L. “Elroy” Hillwig Jr., 78, of Grove City, died Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at AHN Grove City.

Born Aug. 27, 1945, in East Brady, he was the son of Melvin L. and Rose (Bowser) Hillwig.

A Vietnam veteran, Elroy served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Coral Sea. He was a member of the American Legion Post 488, Bradys Bend.

On Feb. 6, 1971, Elroy married the former Ellen L. Parker. She survives.

Elroy worked at Witco Chemical and later repaired roofs in Florida for 15 years.

Elroy was of the Presbyterian faith. He enjoyed golf, fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Hillwig of Grove City; and two sons, Linc (Donna) Hillwig of Grove City and Justin (Joy) Hillwig of Coraopolis.

He is also survived by two sisters, Barbara Hoover of Butler and Nancy (Lyle) Hutchinson of Karns City; one brother, Greg (Debbie) Hillwig of Butler; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Elroy was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald and Robbie; and one granddaughter, Serenity.

HILLWIG — Friends of Melvin L. “Elroy” Hillwig Jr., who died Wednesday, May 8, 2024, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at BUECHELE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 707 Kellys Way, East Brady.

A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Pastor Paul DeBacco officiating.

He will be buried in Bradys Bend Cemetery.

The Hillwig family suggests that memorials be made in Elroy’s name to the American Legion Post 488, 975 PA Route 68, East Brady, PA 16028, or the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516.
