Donald Leo Hortert, 88, of Butler, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, at his home.

Born Jan. 28, 1936, in Butler, he was the son of Ferdinand Hortert and Anna Kovacik Hortert.

Don served in the Marine Corps during Vietnam, then became a recruiter, serving for 20 years. He then worked at the Butler VA Medical Center for 20 years. Don enjoyed bowling, gardening, reading and puzzles.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Hortert, whom he married Sept. 5, 1964; his daughter, Sheri Wilson of Butler; his son, Donald (Yakuan) Hortert Jr. of Pensacola; two sisters, Dorothy Beblo of Butler and Julia Lacuesta of Butler; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Joseph Hortert, Rollie Hortert, James Hortert and William Hortert; and two sisters, Frances Uram and Patricia Goepfert.

HORTERT — Private graveside services for Donald Leo Hortert, who died Monday, April 29, 2024, will be held at the Summit Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
