Rockets roll at PNC Park

Seniors Sal Mineo, Dom Zandi, and Ryan Double had multi-hit performances as Slippery Rock downed rival Grove City, 10-2, at PNC Park on Saturday afternoon.

Mineo racked up five RBIs in the baseball matchup, while Isaac McCandless earned the win, allowing one run and striking out five in four innings.

The Rockets (9-3) play Franklin on Wednesday night.

Knoch 4, Deer Lakes 0 — In his first varsity start, Noah Glassic worked on the mound for five innings, allowing just two hits and striking out a pair in this Knights (5-8) non-conference win.

Jacob Stallsmith had two RBIs, while Kyle Morgan, Brady Wozniak, Sean Morgan, and Logan Cypher each added another.

Track and Field

Jocie Slesinski’s first-place high jump of 5 feet, 3.25 inches was among a number of personal best performances for Butler at Saturday’s South Fayette Invitational.

In her first time running the event this season, Lauren Bowden finished third in the 400-meter run with a time of 59.07 seconds, which is good enough for ninth on the Golden Tornado’s all-time list.

Adraya Baxter was fourth in the 100 hurdles (16.54) and 300 hurdles (49.16). Halle Swidzinski placed the same in the pole vault (9-9) and Bowden sixth in the 200 dash (26.15).

— At the same meet, Slippery Rock’s Dustin Joyce had a pair of second-place leaps, in the long jump (21-5) and triple jump (43-8). Eli Anderson’s 15.08 time in the 110 hurdles placed the same.

Anderson was also third in the 300 hurdles (40.85) and Tyler Arblaster fourth in the 400 run (51.63).

Softball

Jada Polczynski homered and Addison Burrows doubled and the pair combined for five RBIs in a 13-11 Karns City home win over Punxsutawney.

While going six innings in the circle, Burrows had four total hits. Lyrik Reed also had a multi-hit day.
