Vero’s Bar being demolished

The former Vero’s Bar, located at 411 E. Locust St. in Butler is being torn down as part of a construction project.

Vero’s was owned and operated by the Vero family starting in 1933 until its closure in 1995, according to former owner Fred Vero.

The bar was opened by Vero’s grandfather, who was also named Fred Vero he said.

“It was a comfortable neighborhood bar,” Vero said. “It had the first liquor license in Butler after prohibition and the date was April 8, 1933. Prior to a bar my grandfather had a produce store there.”

Vero said he is not sure what the current plans are with the property, as he has not had any contact recently with its new owners.
