Get to the polls, cast your vote, make your voice heard this Election Day

It’s election day once again. If you haven’t made a plan to get to the polls, there’s no time like the present.

Registered voters can cast a ballot at their assigned precinct between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, April 23, helping to determine which candidates for each party should proceed to the November ballot.

This year, the ballot includes presidential candidates in addition to a handful of candidates on a local and state level. If you want to have a say, now’s the time when your voice can make a difference.

As you make plans to head to the polls, make sure you’re prepared.

For information on the primary election, the Butler County Election Bureau is the go-to spot. When county residents visit www.butlercountypa.gov/160/Bureau-of-Elections, they will find a list of precinct locations, sample ballots and other helpful resources and updates.

For instance, the website includes a notice from the Butler County Bureau of elections regarding candidates removed from the ballot, which explains that Butler County finalized its ballots for the election on March 15, 2024, prior to the time when all litigation on objections to nomination petitions was resolved.

Because of this, there are names on the ballot even though they have now been removed by court order, which include William Parker who was seeking a U.S. Senate seat on the Democratic ballot and Joseph Vodvarka who was seeking a U.S. Senate seat on the Republican ballot.

“If you mark your ballot for the above-named candidate in this race, that vote will not be counted,” the notice states. “If you wish to vote for either of these candidates, you may do so by filling in the oval next to “or write-in” and write in the candidate’s name in that race.”

For those who live in Petrolia, the polling location moved due to an emergency — the building flooded and was considered not usable for the upcoming election. Registered voters of Petrolia borough will temporarily vote at their previous polling location, the Petrolia Volunteer Fire Hall, 200 Argyle St., Petrolia.

Additionally, residents of Adams, Connoquenessing, Cranberry, Jackson and Middlesex townships may want to check their assigned precincts to ensure they go to the right spot. A number of precincts in the townships split in 2023 and your polling location may have changed.
