Shelva Jewart

Jewart

Shelva “Barbara” Jean Jewart, 84, of Utica, Pa., formerly of Hooker, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Born Feb. 27, 1940, in Cosco, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Michael Vargo and Betty (Mahan) Vargo.

Barb enjoyed spending her time with her family and rarely missed any of her grandchildren’s sporting events. She was known as the best Wiffle ball pitcher in northern Butler County and shared her love of baseball with her son and grandchildren. She was a renowned baker and loved to share her baked goods with her family. Our Mother was the sweetest woman and loved her family fiercely. She will live on in our hearts forever.

She is survived by three children, Jodie (David) Heckman of Utica, Judy (Robert) Scott of Slippery Rock and Michael (Heather) Jewart of Hooker. She was also the proud grandmother of six grandchildren, Luke Scott, Ryan Scott, Zachary Jewart, Jacob Jewart, Samuel Jewart and Abbey Jewart. She helped raise her sister, Tammy (Roger) Grossman, and Tammy’s two children, Roger (Christine) Grossman and Randy (Crystal) Grossman. Barb looked upon Tammy as another daughter. Barb also is survived by several siblings, Glenn Vargo of Butler, Sandra Smith of Butler; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Clair “Bub” Jewart, on March 30, 2022; her grandson, Samuel Jewart; a brother, Larry Vargo; and a sister, Linda Wiesner.

Her family extends their appreciation to the nurses and aides of Asera Care Hospice for their care and compassion.
