Gary Glenn

Glenn

Gary Lee Glenn of Slippery Rock, plowed his last field, put away the tractor and mower and backed his blue Ford Pickup into the garage for the last time on April 19, 2024. He passed away at AHN-Wexford Hospital at the age of 75 following a courageous battle with lung diseases. He found the greatness of God in every part of his life and went to sleep each night with a prayer on his lips and woke each morning with thanksgiving in his heart. He was a kind and humble man who greeted each person he met with a solid handshake and smile. He was always a gentleman and a friend to so many. Despite being large in stature, he was everyone’s “Gentle Ben.” He had a tender soul, was slow to anger and quick to forgive.

Born on July 18, 1948, to Howard F. and Bernice Cleland Glenn of Harlansburg, he was proud to be the seventh son (“Baby Boy”) of eight children raised on a 140-acre dairy farm. His siblings include Elton (Liz), Art (Nancy), Dale (deceased), Bob (Patsy), Herb (deceased), Harold (Sharon) and Karin (Mark Edwards). He is survived by Carol Miller, Worth Township. He was her “Knight in Dusty Denim.” They loved each other dearly for fifty years.

Gary graduated from Laurel High School in New Castle in 1966. He was a dedicated and hard worker who was employed at various jobs before making a career as a truck driver at H.W. Cooper & Sons (Sidley’s) in Slippery Rock for many years. Gary also volunteered at Scott Township Volunteer Fire Department which he joined in 1975. He was twice voted Fireman of the Year. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Harlansburg. He was a proud farmer all his life and found peace at home and on the land.

After he retired from his full-time job, he became “ROMEO” (Retired Old Man Escaping Out), driving truck and farm equipment for area farmers when they needed help. His favorite pastime became transporting and working with Rudy Yoder and Henry Byler on their many jobs. Their friendships were ones to be admired, as all parties genuinely enjoyed and respected each other. He loved many, was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all!

When you think of Gary, may your memories bring a smile to your face, joy to your heart and peace to your soul.
