J. Frank Doney Jr., 94, passed away at his home in Bakerstown, Allegheny County, on Thursday, April 18, 2024, after a long illness.

Born in Indiana, Pa., on Feb. 9, 1930, he was the son of the late Jay Frank Doney Sr. and Virginia Irene Raybould Doney.

A U.S. Marine veteran, Frank served in the 1st Marine Division as a field musician and bugler during the Korean War, and was discharged as a corporal on Dec. 31, 1953.

He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy Louise Cluroe Doney, whom he married on Aug. 14, 1954, and who died on April 6, 2007, after 52 years of marriage.

Frank was a registered surveyor for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, where he had worked for PennDOT since 1972. In 1982, he was promoted to chief of surveys and remained in that position until his retirement in 1991.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 548 in Bakerstown and life member of Allegheny County Sportsman's League and West View Hunting & Fishing Club. His favorite pastimes were deer hunting and tending to his backyard garden.

Surviving family members include two sisters, Virginia Lee “Missy” White of Butler and Brenda Irene Stauber (Paul) of Allison Park; three children, Anita L. Doney of Bentonville, Ark., Kathleen D. Weaver (Steve) of Muncie, Ind., and Frank E. Doney at home in Bakerstown; five grandchildren, Kara Kozdron of Gibsonia, Lindsey Moody (J.D.) of Bentonville, Ark., Rachel Bridwell (Jaye) of Brunswick, Ga., Rebecca Hunt (Kris) of Fishers, Ind., and Randall Weaver (Alexa) of Warsaw, Ind.; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

DONEY — There will be no public viewing for J. Frank Doney Jr., who died Thursday, April 18, 2024. Private services will be held at SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME, Bakerstown. Interment with military honors will follow in Allegheny County Memorial Park.
