J. Robert Utz

Utz

J. Robert “Bob” Utz, 70, of Mars, went home to spend the rest of eternity with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday afternoon, April 16, 2024. He was surrounded by his family, listening to worship music, when he let go of their hands and took the hand of Jesus.

Bob was quite a man. He loved God, his family, friends, basketball, water skiing, golf, snorkeling, word puzzles and putzing around the yard. Bob adored his kids and 11 grandchildren. He was a member of Bakerstown Presbyterian Church, was the rules interpreter for the Golden Triangle Basketball Officiating Chapter, and was active in Rich-Mar Rotary and Tuesday early morning Bible study group.

He spent the first half of his professional career in personal finance, and after successfully battling melanoma, the second half of his career as a math teacher with the Pine-Richland School District. He coached high school and junior high basketball at Mars and Pine-Richland and ran a youth basketball program in Mars.

A 1972 graduate of Mars High School and later of Westminster College, he ran track and played football and basketball. Whatever his kids were involved in, he coached or helped in any capacity needed. When Bob was asked to help at home, in school or in the community (with anything) the answer was always Yes! He will be missed by many!

Bob is survived by his wife, Connie; sons, Shawn (Christina), Corey (Emily), Brian (Courtney); daughter, Julie (Gray) MacKenzie; nephew, Ryan Utz; niece, Jamie (Jesse) Jackson; grandchildren, Laney, Hannah, Jaedon, Malachi, Isaiah, Ethan, Xavier, Laurel, Bennett, Holly and Miles; his parents, John and Jeanne Humes Utz; his sister, Connie (Jim) Towers; his brother, Howard (Connie) Utz; his sisters-in-law, Pam (Paul) Marshall and Janet (Becky) Saul; his uncle, Stan; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
