Brent Douglas Hilton, 81, of Butler passed away at Grove Manor Nursing Home in Grove City on Saturday, April 13, 2024, following a short illness. He was born in Rochester, Pa., on April 4, 1943, to Richard Oliver Hilton and Opal Marie Wilson Hilton. Brent was raised in Independence Township, Beaver County. He attended a one-room schoolhouse in grades one to six, then went to Hopewell High School, graduating in 1961. Brent graduated in 1967 from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture through their six year program.

Upon graduation, Brent joined the Butler architecture firm of Howard, Burt & Hill and retired as a principal owner with Burt Hill Kosar Rittelmann Associates in 1995. During this period, Brent became a member of the American Institute of Architects and served on the group’s national education committee for several years. He served as a consultant to the commission developing Pennsylvania’s Act 34 school construction reimbursement standards. He was involved in planning and design of schools in West Virginia, Virginia, and throughout Western Pennsylvania.

As a youth, Brent raised corn to sell, picked strawberries and was a clerk in a pharmacy. Throughout his life, he went hunting and fishing, loving the outdoors.

In 1995, Brent married Gail (formerly Fergus/Daugherty). His children include Brent Douglas Jr., Julie Anne Allesch (Adolf), and William “Billy” Daugherty III (Shelly), and his grandchildren include Sophia Hilton, Max Allesch (Taylor), Leo Allesch, Gunner Daugherty (Monique), Gannan Daugherty (Camille) and Kitrina Daugherty.

Brent was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock and a former member of Hill Presbyterian Church in Butler. He served as an elder in both churches. At Highland, he was chairman of the Pulpit Nominating committee and chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee.

Surviving are his wife, Gail, at home; his children listed above; sister, Linda Ross of Hookstown, Pa.; grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and extended family of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, John Ross; and father-in-law, James Fergus.

HILTON — A celebration of life service for Brent Douglas Hilton, who died Saturday, April 13, 2024, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Highland Presbyterian Church, 310 Franklin St., Slippery Rock. The service will be led by the Rev. Jeff Curtis of Highland Presbyterian Church and by family member Pastor Billy Daugherty.

The family will receive friends at 10:15 a.m. and immediately following the service Saturday at the church. A luncheon will follow the service at Highland Presbyterian Church.

Prior to the celebration of life church service, the family will observe a private viewing at SMITH FUNERAL HOME in Slippery Rock followed by a private interment service at Slippery Rock Cemetery.
