Knoch softball wins 5th in row

Kaila Purcell tossed a five-hit shutout, striking out six, in leading Knoch’s softball team to a 7-0 victory over Highlands on Wednesday.

Sylvia Luffy, Marlee Fraser and Berynne Smith all had two hits for the Knights, who won their fifth straight game.

Mars 9, New Castle 3 — The Planets improved to 3-6 overall, 2-1 in section play with this win.

Karns City 21, Moniteau 10 — The Gremlins erupted for 13 runs in the fourth inning. Lyrik Reed and Jada Polczynski had four hits each, combining for seven runs and six RBI. A.Taylor had a triple, double and single, Nicole Taylor a triple and double, winning pitcher Addison Burrows a double and four runs, N.Huff a home run.

Mariska Shunk had two singles and three runs, Addy Williams a double, single and two runs for Moniteau.

Baseball

Roman Brunsell struck out seven in six innigs to lead Mars to a 9-2 victory over North Hills.

Jake Johnson had two singles and two RBI for the Planets (4-2, 3-2). Shane Klinefelter had a double, single and RBI, Jacob Maple a double, single and two RBI. Vincent Gottschalk had a double, single, RBI and scored two runs.

North Catholic 10, Highlands 0 — Caden Williams tossed a two-hit shutout and Blake Pimrose hit a three-run homer for the Trojans.

Track and Field

Slippery Rock split a Tuesday meet with Greenville, the boys winning, 93-55, the girls dropping an 81-69 decision.

Levi Prementine won the 300-meter hurdles, high jump and long jump for the Rockets. Viktor Zahn won the 800 and 1,600 meters, Tyer Arblaster the 100 and 200 meters.

On the girls side for Slippery Rock, Ava Reich won the 100 and 300-meter hurdles, Samantha Montgomery the long jump and triple jump.

Karns City (girls) 105.5, Redbank Valley 44.5 — Ava Kamenski won both hurdle events and Karns City swept the relay events as the Gremlins defeated Redbank Valley on Tuesday.

Cranberry 88, Moniteau 61 (girls) — Alexis Kirschner won the 300-meter hurdles and long jump for the Warriors. Emily Matz won the 100 meters, Allie Pry the 200 meters, both girls also running legs of Moniteau’s winning 4x100 relay.

Boys Tennis

Ben Busler won his match at No. 2 singles for Butler, but the Golden Tornado dropped a 4-1 decision to Pine-Richland.

Knoch’s Quin Howison, Mason Hoffmann and Ethan Lauer swept the singles events as the Knights picked up their first win of the season, 3-2, over Springdale.

Singles: Quin Howison (K) def. Ben Spencer, 6-0, 6-0; Mason Hoffmann (K) def. Casey Dale, 6-2, 6-2; Ethan Lauer (K) def. Christian Heckman, 6-0, 6-2

Doubles: Noah Skaugen/Mathew Lawrence (S) def. Will Schwalm/Aaron Lauer, 6-1, 6-1

Lucas Crawford and Ethan Palmer scored singles wins for Mars in a 4-1 win over North Hills. The Planet doubles teams of Evan and Max Palmiero, Zack Wilfong and Jaxon Hittole were also victorious.

Girls Lacrosse

Mars picked up another section win, defeating Chartiers Valley, 10-3.
