EAST BUTLER — As park renovations continue, returfing of the East Butler Sports Complex could be completed this week depending on the weather, borough council shared during a meeting Monday, April 1.

The cost of returfing is $59,000, president Kevin Hesidenz said after the meeting.

Council also announced a sign for the East Butler Sports Complex recently was put up. The sign would replace the East Butler Baseball Association’s, Hesidenz said.

The first baseball game will take place Saturday, April 6.

When asked by a member of the East Butler Baseball Association what local sports would be played at the sports complex, Hesidenz declined to comment due to pending litigation between the borough and the association.

After the meeting, Hesidenz said the borough was served with a lawsuit by the East Butler Baseball Association in March.

According to previous reporting, the lawsuit claims the borough is preventing the association from retrieving property from baseball fields it has maintained for 72 years.

The disaffiliation between the borough and the baseball association took place in August, when the two entities could not come to a contract agreement.

Monday evening, borough council also approved the purchase of a 3-yard dumpster from Aiken Refuse for the sports complex at a cost of $80 a month for waste to be picked up every other week.

In addition, council approved the purchase of a 30-yard $670 dumpster from Aiken Refuse for the borough’s cleanup day June 8.
