Cranberry Township awards $23 million contract to Vogel Disposal Services Inc.

Vogel Disposal Service Inc. will continue to be a familiar face in Cranberry Township.

“You have to take the trash out, and nearby communities that don’t service their communities, they get trash that gets stacked up,” said Bruce Hezlep, supervisors vice chairman. “It’s an eyesore and can attract vermin and rodents.”

The company was awarded a five-year municipal solid waste contract during the supervisors meeting on Thursday, March 28.

Vogel held the contract for the previous 10 years.

The contract, which was the lowest of the bids submitted to the township, was for $23,017,001.06 for five years.

The contract includes the Township’s Collection Connection program, which covers residential trash, yard waste and recycling collection, disposal, and processing.

The contract also has extension options after five years.

The five-year agreement includes trucks operated with environmentally friendly compressed natural gas, GIS-equipped trucks, separate downsized trucks for collections on narrow streets and alleys, a dedicated route supervisor, and pre-route driver training.
