Mathieson

Barbara Ruth Mathieson, of Volant, Plain Grove Township, passed away at the home of her son on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, in Zelienople, surrounded by loving family. She was 67.

She was born on Jan. 13, 1957, in West Sunbury, to Harrison Ransom Moon and Mary Belle Swope Moon.

Barbara was always an excellent mom and homemaker. After her children were raised, she worked as a food preparer and service provider for McDonald’s in Grove City, where she worked for over 13 years. She enjoyed working with her peers and serving the many who came through the restaurant’s doors and drive-thru. She enjoyed crocheting most of her life; playing cards and board games with family and friends; watching old science fiction movies; and collecting pigs. She was a voracious reader.

Survivors include her sons, Charles D. “Chuck” (Trish) Mathieson of Zelienople, Steven E. (Amy) Mathieson of Pittsburgh and Nicolas R. Mathieson of Sandy Lake; daughter, Carolee A. Mathieson of Volant; five sisters, Velda Jean Hornung of South Carolina, Rose Barkley of Mercer, Rachel Christine Stark of Houston, Texas, Laurel “Lorie” (Bill) Rendos of Volant and Dora Lee “Dixie” Ferona of Colby, Kansas; two brothers, George Moon of Portersville and Harrison R. “Bud” Moon Jr. of Volant; and three grandchildren, Grace and Christian Johnson and Jack Mathieson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Violet Moon and Elizabeth Brown; and a brother, Robert Moon.

MATHIESON — The family of Barbara Ruth Mathieson, who died Wednesday, March 27, 2024, will receive visitors from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 3 p.m. Monday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Village of Leesburg, 1778 Perry Highway, Volant. A celebration of life service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
