Robert A. “Bob” Thomas, 75, of Chicora, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born Feb. 22, 1949 in Butler, he was a son of the late Charles M. Thomas, Jr. and Elisa I. (DeMatteis) Thomas.

Bob was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) for 40 years.

He served as business manager/financial secretary for IBEW Local 10 for 10 years. Bob also served as an assistant business manager and treasurer of IBEW Local 5 until his retirement from there in 2009. He also served as president of the Butler and Venango Building Trades Council and as president of the Butler County United Labor Council for many years until his retirement.

Bob was very active with the community and served on many boards in the Butler community; the Community Development Corporation of Butler County, United Way of Butler County and the Red Cross of Butler County, to just name a few.

Bob was also a member of the YMCA. He was part of the Steelers Tailgate Charity for 17 years, which benefited different youth organizations. He enjoyed golfing and walking his dogs, Diesel and Franco.

He was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Michael Roman Catholic Church in Butler.

Surviving are his daughter, Jennifer Thomas of Chicora; two sisters, Mary Ann (Larry) Townsend of Sarver and Jacqueline Apel of McCandless; a sister-in-law, Marsha Thomas of Cranberry Township; nieces and nephews, Lisa (René) Thomas, Christopher Thomas, Stephanie (Steve) Kuligowski, Melissa (Adam) Toncini, Michael Thomas Jr. and Joseph (Jenita) Apel; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Ella and Mason Kuligowski, Elisa and Asher Toncini, and Brock, Mack and Cole Apel.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Chuck and Mike Thomas; and a brother-in-law, Bruce Apel.

THOMAS — Friends of Robert A. “Bob” Thomas, who died Friday, March 22, 2024, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 432 Center Ave., Butler. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Isaiah 117 or Caring Angels of Butler Memorial Hospital.
