John ‘Pete’ Evans

John “Pete” Evans, 80, of Butler, passed away the morning of Tuesday, March 26, 2024, under the care of Quality Life Services — Sugar Creek.

Born Nov. 30, 1943, in Butler, he was the son of the late Leo Frank Evans Sr. and the late Leaudra Rosealene (Miller) Evans.

Pete was a graduate of Butler Senior High School and went on to serve his country honorably in the U.S. Army. Pete worked for Logan Candy Co. in Butler for 25 years and spent 15 years in security in both Ford City and Butler. He was a longtime member of All Saints Parish, St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler, and was a member of American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora. Pete was a sports enthusiast, umpiring baseball and officiating football, each for over 20 years. In addition to sports, he enjoyed all types of music. Above all else, Pete loved spending time with his grandkids and his family.

He is survived by his son, Vincent Alan (Trish) Evans of Butler; three grandchildren, Landen, Cade and Audra Evans, all of Butler; one sister, Anna Franchuk of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Roseanne L. (Szalankiewicz) Evans, whom he married on Sept. 14, 1968, and who passed away on July 28, 2008; two brothers; and three sisters.

EVANS — Per his wishes, there will be no public visitation or services for John “Pete” Evans, who died Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

Arrangements have been entrusted to THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.

He will be laid to rest privately in Butler County Memorial Park.
