Theodore James Matthias, 91, of Harrisville, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

Ted was born on Oct. 20, 1932, in Lebanon, Pa., to Theodore James Matthias and Mildred Rupp Matthias. He married Hazel Joann Bowser on Aug. 11, 1961. She preceded him in death on April 12, 2019.

Ted was trained as a mechanic and served in England. His U.S. Air Force service lasted from 1950 to 1954.

He enjoyed his work, community and family. He was a member of the Harrisville Fire Department, Harrisville American Legion Post 852 and the former Lions Club in Harrisville. He enjoyed playing the organ at his residence, socializing with his friends at the American Legion and, most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include son, James Michael (Michelle) Matthias of Grove City; daughter, Donna M. (Randy) Davies of Mercer; two sisters, Lucy Levengood of Newmanstown, Pa., and Maryanna “Sister” Donmoyer of Annville, Pa.; and four grandchildren, Samantha R. and Zachary M. Matthias, Kelsey N. (Nathan) Davies Scott and Nicholas R. Davies.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and sister, Shirley Reynolds.

MATTHIAS — The family of Theodore James Matthias, who died Wednesday, March 20, 2024, will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

There will be a graveside service at 10 a.m. Monday at Prairie Cemetery in Harrisville.
