Sandra Martonik

Martonik

Sandra “Sandi” Lee Martonik, 80, formerly of Butler, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024, in Winchester, Va.

Sandi was born on Sep. 10, 1943 in Pittsburgh, to the late Walter and Wanda Schlentner. She was a 1961 graduate of Montour High School. Her early years were dedicated to raising her children. She supported her kids in various ways, such as attending numerous parades and practices with the Robinettes, also athletic events and music concerts.

In 1981, she was hired as Christmas help at Kmart, and never left until she retired after 20-plus years. Kmart is where she made many friends, especially Ruthie and Myrna. In the spring of 2023, she moved to Virginia to be with her daughter’s family and made many priceless memories.

She loved watching game shows, “Judge Judy,” and the Steelers, baking with her granddaughter and playing “Wordscapes” and “Work Stacks” with her daughter for their daily competition. Whether candy or cupcakes, she loved her chocolate. She made numerous trips to Lake Gaston, where she loved to fish and take rides on Kristen’s pontoon boat as long as she went really, really slow.

Surviving are her daughter, Sandy (Tim) Fristoe of Bentonville, Va.; her granddaughter, Kristen Fristoe of Bentonville, Va.; daughter-in-law, Stacey (Eddie) Cypher; her granddog, Chippie; great-granddog, Jax; and great-grandcats, Luna, Linus and Pepper; and her brother, Ronnie Schlentner of Silver Springs, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her son, John J. Martonik; her husband, John M. Martonik; her brother, Barry Schlentner and her brother’s life partner, Tom Stevens.
