GetGo Cafe + Market, which is owned by Giant Eagle, is ready to unveil its newest location at 663 New Castle Road in Franklin Township on Thursday, Feb. 29.

Doors will officially open for business at 9 a.m. on Thursday for the “leap day”-themed grand opening and will feature a giant sub-cutting ceremony at noon along with a live DJ, a fuel discount, giveaways, raffles and food and beverage samples while supplies last.

There also will be an appearance by former Pittsburgh Penguin and Stanley Cup champion Tyler Kennedy, who will be working the drive-through lane from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday.

“We’re so excited to celebrate the opening of our newest location in Franklin Township,” said Brandon Daniels, senior manager of public relations and communications with Giant Eagle. “We’re eager to join this community, and this grand opening event is our chance to present them with the best GetGo has to offer.”

GetGo spokesman Dan Donovan said the location is the first GetGo in Pennsylvania to feature a drive-through window.

“What's important for us is to bring our best and brightest ideas,” Donovan said. “That drive-through is a really great first example, because when you think of old school gas stations you think of the roller dogs and things of that nature which we don’t have.”

The 6,300-square-foot store will employ 28, headed by store leader Elaine Denning. It features six gas pumps and will be open 24 hours a day.

Invited guests were able to order food at the location on Tuesday, Feb. 27, providing new team members a realistic look to how busy the store might get on any given day.

“It can be challenging, but it's also exciting,” Denning said. “You get to train everyone from the beginning and set those standards when you first start.”

Crew lead Chris Boughter said there have been a few challenges, such as knowing how much product to order, but aside from that, he has enjoyed getting things set up.

“I came from the Cranberry Township GetGo, so to see the whole new setup is cool,” Boughter said. “We have been here for a couple weeks getting ready to open it up, and it's been a nice experience.”

Doug Smith, new store opening specialist, said he believes the store’s location will take advantage of the traffic coming to and from Butler County attractions such as Lake Arthur.

“What I like about this location is the proximity to the lake and to the Big Butler Fairgrounds,” Smith said. “We have already seen a lot of boaters going past, and I think it's going to be a great stop to and from those locations.”

Beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, all grades of fuel will be discounted by 10 cents per gallon through May 19.

During Thursday’s festivities, GetGo will present a donation of $2,500 to 412 Food Rescue, a nonprofit organization that works with food retailers to prevent surplus food from going to waste.

GetGo also will announce the start of its “buy a sub, share the love” initiative Thursday, where $1 of every sub purchased at the location through March 31 will also be donated to 412 Food Rescue.
