Neighbors on the 300 block of East Pearl Street on Thursday afternoon described the neighborhood as fairly quiet, following news a 31-year-old man had been shot in the face nearby on Wednesday afternoon.

In a statement Thursday, Butler City Police said they responded to Butler Memorial Hospital for a report of a shooting victim around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The man was first taken to Butler Memorial Hospital by an associate and from there was flown to Allegheny General Hospital for treatment and is in stable condition, according to police.

“It’s a real quiet neighborhood,” said Dan Herr, as he walked his dog on East Pearl Street. Herr lives in the area and serves on Butler City Council.

“I walk this lane all the time with my dog,” he said. “That’s kind of scary.”

Another resident also described the neighborhood as fairly quiet, and said she didn’t hear anything at the time of the shooting.

A community member whose mother lives on the street and who asked not to be named said she saw a heavy police presence in the area around 5 p.m. and said East Pearl Street was blocked off between Elm and Franklin streets.

She said while the neighborhood has been “fairly quiet” in past years, she said she’s not as surprised to hear of the shooting as she would have been in the past. She described the area as “progressively more hectic.”

The investigation is ongoing. Butler City Police ask anyone with information to come forward.
