Steven T. Green, president and CEO of Glade Run Lutheran Services, was named the 2024 recipient of the Jean B. Purvis Community Cornerstone Award, the nonprofit announced Wednesday.

The award is presented annually by the Jean B. Purvis Community Health Center to a resident making “significant contributions in the delivery of health care services to the community through their time, actions, talents and behaviors.”

“Steven Green is a natural fit for this award,” said Kim Reamer, executive director of the center. “He has dedicated his career to improving access to health care and other human services throughout our county and region.

“Not only does he serve the community with his professional expertise, he also makes a difference by actively volunteering his time with many community organizations.”

On Wednesday, Green commended the center for its work and said he was excited the award connects him to the clinic.

“I’m honored to be mentioned in the same breath as Jean Purvis,” Green said, referring to the health clinic’s late founder and Butler County philanthropist.

“I think (Purvis) was an incredible leader, servant, mother … I mean, she was just an incredible person in our community, and to be mentioned in the same breath is a little surreal for me,” he said.

Green said his work with Glade Run is a team effort and he’s blessed to work alongside the nonprofit’s staff.

He joined Glade Run in 2018, after working as CEO of Butler County Children’s Center, now known as Early Learning Connections.

Previously, Green worked at Community Alternatives, Butler County Human Services, MHY Family Services and the Bradley Center.

“Every role I’ve had in my career has been a building block to what I’m able to do now as CEO of Glade Run,” he said. “I truly believed when I was young I was ready to be a CEO. But now when I look back, I really wasn’t. There’s so much to learn, so many disciplines to master (beforehand).”

Reflecting on past highlights with the nonprofit, Green said he was proud of the center’s overnight winter warming center, now in its second year, as well as the family wellness program Glade Run operates in partnership with Butler County Children & Youth Services, and of the school-based mental health services built within the last five years.

“But mostly I’m proud of the connections and partnerships we’ve had with all the social service organizations in Butler County,” Green said. “You don’t do anything by yourself — you have to partner and collaborate to be successful. I try to help our young leaders understand it’s not a competition. We’re a service provider — you can’t do everything. You have to have good partnerships and connections to make it all work together.”

Green will receive the Jean B. Purvis Community Cornerstone Award at the Butler Country Club at a ceremony May 10.
