Freeport school board OKs Buffalo Elementary playground upgrade request

BUFFALO TWP — Buffalo Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Organization got the green light to move forward with plans for the school’s playground, the Freeport Area School District board decided at a meeting Wednesday, Feb. 14.

Board directors approved the PTO’s request to begin preliminary planning and research for upgrades to the playground.

After the meeting, board president Gary Risch Jr. said the cost of the upgrades would be raised by the PTO.

As the project is in its preliminary phase, the specific playground developments and timeline and cost of the potential project are not yet known.

The school board also approved a new policy clarifying the residency of students whose parents are active military members.

The policy reflects a new bill sponsored by Rep. Brian Munroe, D-144th, that was signed into law in November and allows children of military families to transfer into Pennsylvania school districts.
