Police identify pedestrian in fatal Butler Township crash

Police have identified the pedestrian who died after being struck by two vehicles in Butler Township on Saturday night, Feb. 10.

Patrick Bender Jr., of Butler, was struck by two separate vehicles on Kittanning Street near Portman Road around 8:10 p.m. Saturday and was later pronounced dead, township police said Monday.

The first crash occurred in the westbound lane on Kittanning Street as Bender walked east, police said. Bender was dressed in dark clothing, according to the news release.

A Chevrolet Impala driven by Maria Rock, 33, of Butler, struck Bender in the westbound lane, police said.

Bender was then struck a second time by a Subaru Impreza driven by Natalie Fitzpatrick, 19, of East Butler, while he was lying in the eastbound lane, police said. The news release indicated Fitzpatrick was unable to avoid striking Bender.

Police said Bender, 46, was transported by Butler Ambulance Service to Butler Memorial Hospital for injuries and later pronounced dead.

The crash is still under investigation, according to police.

Township police were assisted on scene by Butler City police, Butler City Bureau of Fire, Butler Township Volunteer Fire District and state police.
