A-C Valley mourns death of nurse who served district for 25 years
The Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District students and staff are mourning the death of a nurse who served the school for 25 years, the superintendent said in a statement Thursday, Jan. 18.
Holly Irwin, a nurse at the junior/senior high school, will be greatly missed by students and staff, superintendent David McDeavitt said.
“She served as a role model, exhibiting a positive attitude through both good and turbulent times. She cared for our students and staff like they were members of her own family,” he said.
McDeavitt indicated the district is working together to get through Irwin’s death.
“Our school district is still healing from this loss,” he said. “We have been able to offer support to our students through grief counseling provided by local schools and agencies, and our Employer Assistance Program is also available for our staff.”
Another nurse for the district, Tracy Daily, has worked diligently to cover the nursing responsibilities of two buildings after Irwin’s death, according to McDeavitt.
“We appreciate her willingness to provide the type of care to our students and staff that we have grown to expect,” he said.
McDeavitt also encouraged parents to speak with their students about healthy ways to cope with grief and loss, offering resources through the school to assist.
He further thanked the community for support during this time.
“Holly had a positive impact on our school and was a role model in her community. She will certainly be missed,” he said.
