Jackson Twp receives state grant for bridge project

Jackson Township received $75,000 from a state grant for the Evergreen Mill Road/Seneca Valley School Campus Bridge project.

State Sen. Elder Vogel, Jr., R-47, announced on Wednesday, Jan. 17, more than $730,000 in state grants have been awarded for seven community improvement projects in Beaver, Butler and Lawrence counties.

“Creating or improving recreational opportunities helps further enrich our communities and provides places where our residents and travelers can enjoy outdoor activities,” said Vogel. “I’m glad to see these projects will benefit from this funding and know they will add to the revitalization of our area.”

The proposed bridge would extend from the backside of the campus to Evergreen Mill Road, and access to it would be at the discretion of the school district.

The bridge would provide a pedestrian and bicycle route over the Little Connoquenessing Creek, as well as an emergency route for businesses along Evergreen Mill Road in the event of flooding.

In May 2023 the township manager Chris Rearick said the total projected cost would be $500,000.

Rearick said the township also is seeking other modes of funding for the project.
