Patrick Dempsey named Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine

Patrick Dempsey

LOS ANGELES — He's not just “McDreamy” anymore — Patrick Dempsey is now also People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive.

The “Grey's Anatomy” star and race car driver takes the mantle from “Captain America” star Chris Evans , who was 2022's selection. The pick was revealed on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Tuesday night.

"I’ve always been the bridesmaid!” Dempsey, 57, told the magazine about his initial reaction. “I’d completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position. So my ego is good.”

The actor stars in the upcoming Michael Mann film “Ferrari.” He told The Associated Press last year that he did all the driving himself, calling it “the best role I’ve ever had."

Dempsey has driven in several professional races, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and is part of the Wright Motorsports racing team, according to its website.

Dempsey said his three children are bound to tease him about his People magazine selection and “pick on me and figure out every reason why I shouldn’t be.”

The People edition with Dempsey’s cover story will be out Friday.

In addition to racing and acting, he founded the Dempsey Center , a Maine-based organization that provides care and resources for cancer patients, in honor of his late mother.

Dempsey achieved heartthrob status as Dr. Derek Shepherd — nicknamed “McDreamy” — on “Grey's Anatomy,” appearing in more than 250 episodes.

He plays Italian race car driver Piero Taruffi in “Ferrari,” which arrives in theaters later this year. The film has received a waiver so that its stars can promote it without breaking rules in the ongoing actors strike.

Other Sexiest Man Alive recipients include Michael B. Jordan, John Legend, Paul Rudd, Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford and Mel Gibson, who was the magazine's first recipient in 1985.

Travis Kelce isn’t shaking off rumors he’ll join Taylor Swift when she restarts her Eras Tour this week in South America.

The two-time Super Bowl champ, 34, and big brother Jason teased the much-speculated-about romantic overture on the newest episode of their “New Heights” podcast.

“Got anything you’re looking forward to going to?” asked the Philadelphia Eagles center, 36.

“Not really,” said the Kansas City Chiefs tight end. “I might just say, ‘f– it’ and just go somewhere nice, I don’t know. My skin’s getting real pale so I gotta go somewhere sunny.”

Jason asked whether his brother would be heading “somewhere south,” only for Travis to confirm, “Closer to the equator.”

“South of the equator?” asked Jason, earning a laugh from Swift’s newest beau.

The Grammy winner, 33, will return to the stage Thursday in Buenos Aires where she’ll be starting the international leg of the record-breaking Eras Tour. After three nights playing in the Argentinian capital, she’ll head to Brazil to play two shows in Rio de Janeiro.

This week’s shows happen to coincide with the Chiefs’ bye week, for which Kelce said he “never like[s] to plan things.”

Late last month, an insider told Entertainment Tonight that Kelce and the “Shake It Off” singer are “all in” and “planning for the future.

“Taylor starts her international tour in November, Travis is planning to be there to spend time with her,” said the source, noting the lovers “are very serious about their careers” and “want to show support for each other whenever they can.”

Over the weekend, Swift supported the Chiefs by hosting a viewing party for the significant others of the team as they played against the Miami Dolphins, TMZ reports.

Michael Jackson is still scaring his way up the charts all these years later.

Each October, the Quincy Jones-produced, Rod Temperton-penned funk/R&B song — featuring lyrics made for its enduring movie-like music video — becomes an annual sensation during the Halloween season.

On the latest Billboard Hot 100 chart, “Thriller” reached the No. 21 spot. It got 14.5 million U.S. streams, 10.9 million radio airplay audience impressions and 5,000 downloads for the week ending Nov. 2.

According to Billboard, this year marks the sixth straight year in which “Thriller” has reentered the Hot 100.

The track peaked at No. 4 during its initial chart run in 1984.

Its 1983 music video, directed by John Landis, has been deemed the most influential of its time because it mixed filmmaking and music.

With a reported $500,000 production — more than 10 times the cost of the average video at the time — “Thriller” was the first music video to be inducted into the National Film Registry by the Library Of Congress in 2009.

The nearly 14-minute clip, which also starred model Ola Ray, was among recognized works that are “culturally, historically or esthetically” significant.

Other Halloween-sparked tracks that popped on this week’s Hot 100 chart include Bobby “Boris” Pickett and the Crypt-Kickers’ “Monster Mash” at No. 38 and Ray Parker Jr.’s “Ghostbusters” theme song at No. 45.

“This Is Halloween,” featured on the soundtrack of Tim Burton’s classic 1993 stop-motion animated film, “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” came in at No. 41.

The ranking marks the first song from the soundtrack to reach the Hot 100.
