Butler Township promoting fire safety through poster contest

Fire Prevention Week begins Oct. 8 and Butler Township is asking local children to submit posters promoting fire safety to be displayed in its municipal building starting that week.

The theme for the poster contest this year is “Cooking safety starts with you.” The contest is for children in kindergarten through fifth grade at Northwest, McQuistion and Connoquenessing elementary schools, and township administrators will choose a first place poster from each grade level.

The traveling trophy will be awarded to the school with the most participation. The posters will be displayed in the township building through October.

Posters must be created on a 22- by 28-inch white poster board, and can be dropped off at the Butler Township Municipal Building until 4 p.m. Oct. 12. Each entry must include the student’s name, their parent or guardian’s name, a contact phone number and grade and room number.

For more information, call the township at 724-283-3430.
