Howard Rumbaugh
Howard L. “Lee” Rumbaugh, 87, of Cabot, went to be with the Lord Wednesday morning, June 28, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Oct. 1, 1935, in Kaylor, he was the son of the late Wilbur Parks and Helen Viola McElhaney Rumbaugh.
Lee was a member of Summit Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an elder. He was a 1955 graduate of Karns City High School. He served with the U.S. Army. In his early years he was employed at the Spade Shirt Factory, but he spent most of his career with Castle Rubber.
Lee served on the Laura J. Doerr Park board, the Winfield Township Park board and was a member of the Summit Township Sportsman Club.
His greatest joy was his family. He enjoyed being with grandchildren at their sporting events and concerts. He loved serving others, always helping neighbors, friends and family with repairs and construction projects. Lee always had the tools for the job.
Lee is survived by his wife, Cheryl Lynn Rumbaugh, whom he married on Aug. 18, 1962. Also surviving are his three children, Nancy Mueller (John) of East Butler, Michael (Cindy) Rumbaugh of Cresson and Steven (Nora) Rumbaugh of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three brothers, Alvin (Tanya) Rumbaugh, Bernard (Dianna) Rumbaugh and Dennis (Leann) Rumbaugh; one sister, Lois Rumbaugh; four sisters-in-law, Rachael, Emily, Dolly and Rose Rumbaugh; and a brother-in-law, Bill Smith.
Also surviving are his grandchildren, David (Leeza) Mueller, Heidi (Stephen) Hughes, Adam Mueller, Caitlyn (Joshua) Drum, Tyler Rumbaugh, Ashlee Rumbaugh and Lily Rumbaugh; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Harry, Walter, Robert, Richard, Jack and Donald Rumbaugh; three sisters, Ruthie and Virginia Rumbaugh and Maxine Simith; and sisters-in-law Bonnie and Cathy Rumbaugh.
RUMBAUGH — Family and friends of Howard L. Rumbaugh, who died Wednesday, June 28, 2023, are invited to a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Summit Presbyterian Church, 181 Caldwell Drive, Butler.
A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tom Jones officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Summit Church Food Bank, 181 Caldwell Drive, Butler, PA 16002.
