Wingfest expected to draw crowd Sunday

Ten different wing vendors will be featured as The Beacon Hotel in Forward Township hosts its annual Wingfest from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 4.

Deb Krelow, owner of The Beacon Hotel, said, in addition to the wings vendors, there will be beer vendors and other businesses, such as jewelry stores, wineries and cigar shops.

“It’s probably the best way to kick off the summer,” Krelow said. “How could you go wrong?”

Those in attendance will be asked to vote in three different wing categories, such as most original, best overall and the hottest, Krelow said.

“This year we have 10 wing vendors with three different sauces each — so that's 30 wings, if you sample all of them,” Krelow said.

Tickets are $30 before the event and $35 at the door. Tickets are available at the Beacon’s bar, Big Shot Bob’s House of Wings in Cranberry Township, Sports & Spirits in Evans City, Field House in Cabot and Fairground Market in Butler.

Admission includes all wings, food, beer and other alcohol samples.

Krelow said there isn’t a set limit on samples, but with so many vendors she is confident people will leave with full stomachs.

“There are so many vendors, honestly, it's rare they do go back a second time, but, of course, they can,” Krelow said. “By the time you try 30 wings you're going to be full.”

This is the eighth year The Beacon has hosted the event, and Krelow said she estimates about 400 tickets have been sold already. She expects 700 to 800 people to show up for the event.

The Beacon has about nine acres of space for the event, Krelow said, and once everything wraps up, the party will continue even further into the day.

“Then we have an after-party up on the patio,” Krelow said.
