Cranberry Township finds good way to remember Hadley

Cranberry Township dedicated Cranberry Highlands Golf Course’s cart bridge — crossing Freshcorn Road — to former township supervisor Dick Hadley on Friday, May 12.

Earlier this month, Cranberry Township dedicated Cranberry Highlands Golf Course’s cart bridge to former township supervisor Dick Hadley.

Considering Hadley could be found frequently at the course playing a round of golf, it’s a fitting tribute for the supervisor, who died in August 2022, leaving a legacy of service behind.

Township manager Dan Santoro, Hadley’s family and other supervisors spoke highly of Hadley at the ceremony Friday, May 12.

Santoro called Hadley “a long-term champion for recreation and quality-of-life amenities in Cranberry Township.”

Richard “Dick” Michael Hadley Obit for 8-26-22.

He went on to say that Hadley was a champion of the golf course, which is owned and operated by the township, as it came to fruition. Since then, the 186-acre, par-70 course has even received recognitions and awards.

Hadley also was instrumental in building a water park in North Boundary Park and bringing Graham Park to life.

Hadley was elected to the Cranberry Township board of supervisors in 1995, seeing the township through more than two decades of change — always looking ahead to the next way to improve his community.

Hadley was a member of the township’s parks and recreation advisory committee when he died.

He was also involved in the creation of the Miracle League of Southwestern Pennsylvania, and the Miracle League president, Mike Sherry, announced a scholarship in Hadley’s name, also on Friday.

Hadley’s friends, family and all of Cranberry Township should know of his efforts to improve the community. He’s certainly worthy of the recognition, and we’d like to commend those who came together and found a way to honor him.
