Maxine Louise Yonosko, 76, of Butler, passed away late Wednesday afternoon, May 17, 2023, at Concordia in Cabot.

Maxine was born in Altoona on Aug. 26, 1946. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Anna Marie Long Jones.

She was a graduate of St. Mary High School in Sharpsburg. Maxine attended Robert Morris University.

She had been employed as an administrative assistant at U.S. Steel in Pittsburgh.

Maxine was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic, St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Fenelton, where she was a lector, served on parish council and Women’s Guild, and enjoyed helping with community dinners at St. Paul in Butler.

In her earlier years, Maxine was a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed playing games, crossword puzzles, going to their camp at Tidioute, and most especially the company of her grandkids.

She is survived by her husband, John M. Yonosko, whom she married at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Sharpsburg.

Also surviving is a son, Michael E. Yonosko and his wife, Danyelle, of Birmingham, Ala.; two daughters, Janice L. Fanjoy, and her husband, Keith, of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Lisa B. Hoopengardner and her husband, Adam, of Warfordsburg, Pa.

Maxine was affectionately “Grandma” to her seven grandchildren, John Michael Yonosko, Emmit Yonosko, Oliver Yonosko, Calvin Fanjoy, Autumn Fanjoy, Mae Hoopengardner and Gavin Hoopengardner.

She is also survived by a brother, Eugene “Gene” Jones and his wife, Betty; her sisters, Marie Biernesser, Paulette Main and Joyce Stephens and her husband, Hal Black; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Dolores Maltese, Donald Jones, Timothy Jones and Larry Jones; as well as her father-in-law and mother-in-law, and her brothers-in-law and sister-in-law.

YONOSKO — Friends of Maxine Louise Yonosko, who died Wednesday, May 17, 2023, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at HILE FUNERAL HOME OF CHICORA, 339 Chicora-Fenelton Road, Chicora.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John Roman Catholic Church, St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 668 Clearfield Road, Fenelton, with the Rev. Matt McClain, church pastor, officiating.

Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Sharpsburg.
