Joseph R. DeSanzo Jr., 61, of Ellwood City, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.

Joseph was born in Ellwood City on Oct. 28, 1961, to Joseph R. and Shaleen “Shelly” (Morgan) DeSanzo.

He was a member of the Lincoln High School Class of 1979 and Divine Grace Parish, Holy Redeemer Church.

A police officer, Joe had worked as a patrolman for the Perry Township Police Department, Zelienople Police Department with the rank of sergeant, and the Butler County Drug Task Force. He was a past president of both the Butler County Fraternal Order of Police and the Riverside High School Football Boosters.

Joe is survived by his mother, Shelly; his sons, Christopher Ryan DeSanzo of Franklin Township, Joseph W. (Randi) DeSanzo of Ellwood City, and Jonathan DeSanzo of North Sewickley Township; his grandchildren, Braden, Caleb, Ethan, Maddyn and Dante DeSanzo, and Ivy Hammerly; his sister, Jodi (Brian) Damon of Philadelphia; and a brother, Joseph (Diana) Pfiefer of New Brighton.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph R. DeSanzo Sr.

DESANZO — Family and friends of Joseph R. DeSanzo Jr., who died Monday, May 15, 2023, will be received from 1 p.m. until the time of the blessing service at 5 p.m. Thursday at SAMUEL TEOLIS FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 309 Spring Ave., Ellwood City, with Father Mark Thomas officiating.
