Dolan

The Rev. James W. Dolan, 73, of Butler, passed away on Sunday morning, May 7, 2023, at his home.

Father Dolan was born Nov. 23, 1949, in Pittsburgh and was a son of the late Charles E. Dolan Sr. and Jane (MacPherson) Dolan.

Father Dolan was a graduate of Butler High School, received his bachelor’s degree from Duquesne University, received his master of arts degree from Mount St. Mary in Emmitsburg, Md., and received his master of education degree from Duquesne University.

Father Dolan was ordained on May 3, 1975, by Bishop Vincent M. Leonard at St. Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh. He had many assignments with Diocese of Pittsburgh, which included being the pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Parish and St. Peter Parish, both in Butler. His last assignment was with St. Sebastian Parish in Pittsburgh, before retiring on Jan. 1, 2020.

Surviving is his brother, Charles “Bud” (Nancy) Dolan of Butler, and he was a dear friend to many over the years.

DOLAN — Friends of the Rev. James W. Dolan, who died Sunday, May 7, 2023, will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.

Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until noon Friday at St. Conrad Roman Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road, Meridian.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Friday at the church with Bishop David A. Zubik officiating.

Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery in McMurray, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Butler Catholic School, 515 E. Locust St., Butler, PA 16001, or intentions for Masses in memory of Father Dolan.
