SRU ends season with split
SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University baseball team ended its season Friday with a pair of eight-inning games against Pitt-Johnstown.
The teams split the doubleheader at Critchdfield Park, SRU (23-27, 8-20) winning the first game, 2-1, and UPJ (18-31, 11-17) claiming the nightcap, 6-0.
Luke Trueman was the winning pitcher for The Rock in Game 1, pitching a complete game and allowing five hits. At the plate, he collected two doubles, a single and RBI.
Trueman hit .381 with 11 homer runs and 35 RBI this season. On the mound, he was 7-3 with a 1.98 earned run average and 69 strikeouts in 77.1 innings.
Seneca Valley graduate and Rock freshman Nate Malak pitched the second game for SRU, tossing five scoreless innings and allowing two hits. Michael Kitko took the loss in relief, allowing a two-run homer to UPJ’s Dylan Broderick that sparked a six-run inning. Josh Reynolds added a grand slam later in the inning.
