Howard Frank Jr.
Howard W. Frank Jr., 98, of Butler, passed away on May 3, 2023, at Newhaven Court at Clearview.
He was born June 28, 1924, in Hendersonville, Pa., and was the son of the late Howard W. Frank Sr. and the late Wilhelmina Bennett Oxenrider.
Howard loved his family’s annual trips to the Canadian wilderness, where he fished for muskie, canoed, and boated the many rivers and lakes of Ontario. He also enjoyed gardening and tending to the fruit trees of his orchard.
Howard earned the rank of corporal as heavy AA gunner for the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was involved in combat and amphibious landings during the Peleliu and Aguar Island Campaign with the 3rd Amphibious Corps in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
Howard retired from Pullman Standard after working as a machinist for 37 years. For 66 years, he was a member of the William H. Miller Lodge 769 F&AM in Butler.
Howard is survived by his son, Howard W. Frank III; two daughters, Linda Elaine Frank-Graham and Pamela Joy (Mark) Reges; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Marian Frank.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Dorothy Everly Frank, whom he married on Feb. 21, 1944, and who passed away on Nov. 24, 2015; one son, Gary W. Frank; one brother, Donald Frank; and one sister, Olive Anderson.
FRANK — Friends of Howard W. Frank Jr., who died Wednesday, May 3, 2023, will be received from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.
Officers and members of the William H. Miller Lodge 769 F&AM will meet at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Monday to conduct Masonic services.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Pastor Brady Randall of Oak Hill Church officiating.
Officers and members of American Legion Post 117, American Legion Post 778, and VFW Post 249 will conduct military services at Butler County Memorial Park prior to burial.
Burial will take place in Butler County Memorial Park.
