Russell E. “Russ” Whittaker Jr., 79, of Noblesville, Ind., passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2023.

Russ was born May 11, 1943, in Baltimore, Md., and was the son of the late Russell E. Sr. and Ellen Whittaker.

He was a 1961 graduate of BCI High School located in Coalport, Pa., and a 1965 graduate of California State College located in California, Pa.

Russ began his career as an industrial arts teacher, where he worked for four years at Tyrone High School in Tyrone, Pa. He later worked for Fuellgraf Electric Company in Butler, as a project manager, where he retired in 2018.

He was a Ham radio operator and a member of the American Radio Relay League. He served as a member of the Glendale Junior/Senior School Board in Flinton, Pa.

Russ enjoyed target shooting, and was an avid hunter and a member of the National Rifle Association.

Russ is survived by his wife, Jo, of nearly 58 years; his daughter, Jennifer J. (husband Matt) Etchemendy; his grandchildren, Russell (wife Kayla) Whittaker IV and Christopher Etchemendy; his great-grandsons, Grayson and Ryland Whittaker; and his brothers, Deane and Neil Whittaker.

He was preceded in death by his son, Russell E. “Rusty” Whittaker III; and his sister, Eleanor “Cookie” Nierle.

WHITTAKER — Memorial services for Russell E. “Russ” Whittaker Jr., who died Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the Chapel Mausoleum, Blair Memorial Park, 3234 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona.

Directly following the service, please join us for our funeral reception luncheon at Park Hills Golf Club, 219 Highland Terrace, Altoona.
