Shemela

Dorothy G. Nicklas Shemela, 96, of Cooperstown, passed away on Wednesday morning, April 26, 2023, at Washington Place in Gibsonia.

Born in Glade Mills on Dec. 21, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Harry W. and Sara E. Steiner Nicklas.

Dorothy had been a waitress at the Horn of Plenty Restaurant in Middlesex Township.

She was a lifelong member of Glade Run United Presbyterian Church in Middlesex, where she had served as a deacon and was a member of the senior group.

She volunteered for the South Butler Community Meals on Wheels and belonged to the Mars AARP, the Mars Seniors Bowling Group and the Go-Getters Bowling Group of Natrona Heights.

Surviving is her son, Ronald J. Shemela and his wife, Robin, of Mars; four granddaughters, Amber Mabry (Randy) of South Carolina, Abbey Swope (Ryan) of Indiana, Jenna Fatula of South Carolina, and Heather Brazill of Uniontown; two grandsons, Clayton Shemela of New Jersey, and Adrian Shemela (Renee) of Idaho; and two nieces, Alliene Lees (Jim) and Janice Schmitt (Roy), both of Mars.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Shemela, whom she married on Sept. 21, 1946, and who died on June 2, 1985; her son, Jay W. Shemela; and by her brothers, Wayne and H. Wesley Nicklas.

SHEMELA — Friends of Dorothy G. Nicklas Shemela, who died Wednesday, April 26, 2023, will be received from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. Saturday at MCDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars.

Burial will be in Glade Run Cemetery, Middlesex Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the South Butler Community Meals on Wheels, 1091 Pittsburgh Road, Valencia, PA 16059.
