Harry C. Burtner, 93, of Butler, passed away peacefully April 13, 2023, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born on the family farm in Jefferson Township on June 2, 1929, and was the son of the late Forest H. Burtner and the late Mary Lena (Giles) Burtner. He was the last of 17 children.

Harry attended the one-room Heller School, and then graduated from Butler High School.

Following graduation, he and his brother, Vance bought and ran the family farm. Harry delivered vegetables and eggs to many families in Butler, where many still remember him as “The Eggman.”

Harry attended Thorn Creek United Methodist Church his entire life, teaching Sunday school, and holding many church offices. He was proud of his children and grandchildren, who continue in service to the Lord.

Harry enjoyed gardening, fishing and bird watching.

He is survived by his children, Kathy (Norm) Hamilton, Connie (Randall) Cypher, Raylene (John) Miller, Colleen (John) Borcz and Dean Burtner; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Jean.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie L. Taylor, whom he married on Feb. 16, 1952, and who passed away on April 25, 2001; two sons; and his 16 siblings.

BURTNER — Friends of Harry C. Burtner, who died Thursday, April 13, 2023, will be received from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 16, 2023, at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Thorn Creek United Methodist Church, 142 Rockdale Road, Butler, with Pastor Amanda Mitchell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Thorn Creek United Methodist Church, 142 Rockdale Road, Butler, PA 16002, or Mission Aviation Fellowship, P.O. Box 47, Nampa, ID 83687.
