Anthony Grenek Jr.

Grenek

Anthony Grenek Jr., 84, passed away March 30, 2023.

Born in Lyndora on May 22, 1938, he was the son of the late Anthony Grenek Sr. and Marie (Ordy) Grenek.

Tony Jr. “Sonny” was a retired English and speech teacher, who taught for 31 years. Many of his former students considered him their “favorite” teacher.

Tony was also an accomplished musician, song writer, author and poet. A superb accordionist and keyboard player, Tony entertained thousands of people. Some highlights include him performing at Carnegie Hall and for the Miss Pennsylvania Pageant. His band, “The Tony Grenek Trio,” produced two records. Tony wrote over 120 songs and authored two books.

In 1987, he received a national award for his poetry. In 1991, his poetry book entitled “Touch the Concrete, Feel the Abstract” was published. But if anyone would ever ask him, he would tell you his greatest accomplishment was his family. He was a man of morals, kindness, patience and acceptance. Tony was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and uncle.

Anthony is survived by the love of his life for 53 years, his wife, Cecelia (Savannah) Grenek; one son, Anthony III (Megan); two grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Marley and Trey; two wonderful brothers, Gene (Kathie) and Greg; his supportive sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and several beautiful nieces and nephews.

Our family would like to take this time to thank our family members, friends, neighbors, and the staff at St. John’s for their help, love and support.

GRENEK — Burial of Anthony Grenek Jr., who died Thursday, March 30, 2023, will be held privately at North Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler.
